Gozo Channel is state owned company formed in 1979 to maintain, develop, and operate a sea transport service to and from Malta, Gozo and elsewhere which, by the carriage of passengers, freight and mail, will serve the national economy and interests of the Maltese Islands.

Today, this company has become one of the leading local maritime companies in Malta, performing approximately 20,000 trips a year, and it ferries around 5 million passengers and 1.2 million vehicles annually between the two islands.

Boarding tickets are sold only at the Mġarr – Gozo Terminal on a return basis. The company operates 24/7 according to the seasonal schedule, weather permitting.

Very recently the inter-island connectivity was further improved by the introduction of a fast ferry service that operates between Mgarr habour and the Grand habour in Valletta. The Gozo Highspeed service is operated jointly by two companies,namely Virtu Gozo Ferries and Gozo Fast Ferries, that between them according to seasonal schedule always weather permitting.
