A commemorative Mass will be celebrated on board the Gozo Channel ferry at the site of the tragedy of 30th October 1948 — an event that revealed the hardships Gozitans endured to earn a living and their deep longing to return home.
On that day, a luzzu carrying 27 people, mostly Gozitans returning to their island, sank near Ras iċ-Ċawl, close to Ħondoq ir-Rummien. It remains the greatest tragedy within living memory for Gozo.
