Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations

Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations Il-Ħaġar│Heart of Gozo Museum, Cultural Centre, and Community Space (Pjazza San Ġorġ, Victoria), in collaboration with the Ministry for Active Ageing, Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC), Heritage Malta, and Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth Form, is delighted to launch a new initiative titled Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations. The aim of this initiative is to foster intergenerational connections by bringing together members of the elderly community and art students to explore the world of art and create their own interpretations of works displayed at the museum.

The first event of the initiative consists of a public talk titled How to Understand a Work of Art, which will take place this Friday, 5th May 2023, at 11:00, at Il-Ħaġar Museum. The talk will be delivered by Mario Cassar, an art lecturer at Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth Form. Following the talk, attendees will be asked to choose a work of art displayed at the museum and describe it in writing. The descriptions will be passed on to art students at Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth Form to create their own interpretation of the works based on these descriptions. The main intergenerational event will take place on Thursday 18th May 2023, at 09:00, where both the elderly who wrote the descriptions and art students who interpreted the same descriptions will meet at Il-Ħaġar Museum to discuss the similarities between the actual works on display at the museum and their art creations based on the descriptions they were presented with. The event, that will be addressed by the Hon. Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Active Ageing, will be concluded with a guided visit to sites administered by Heritage Malta. Transport will be provided by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC).

Both events are free of charge, and those interested are encouraged to book their places by sending an email to [email protected] or by phoning the museum front desk on 21557504. All parties involved in this initiative of the Ministry for Active Ageing believe that such initiatives are crucial in promoting intergenerational solidarity and a deeper understanding of art. Museum Connections: A Creative Journey Across Generations provides an opportunity for the elderly community and students to connect and learn from each other in a fun and creative way
