KM Malta Airlines announces new Sicily connection

The new service will operate from the end of May

KM Malta Airlines has announced a new service between Malta and the Sicilian city of Palermo, which will run three times a week from the end of May.

In a statement Thursday, the airline said the new service would start operating from May 30 and continue throughout the summer.

The new service is KM’s second Sicily connection, with the airline already operating flights to Catania.

The Palermo route will operate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings in both directions, leaving Malta at 8.55pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays and departing from Sicily at 10.45pm the same night.

The Wednesday service will operate slightly later, leaving Malta at 9.30pm and returning from Palermo at 11.20pm.

KM Malta Airlines chairman David Curmi said the airline was pleased to announce the new route, which he said would “expand the range of destinations available to the Maltese travelling public while also creating additional opportunities to attract inbound visitors to Malta”.

The CEO of the company managing Palermo Falcone Borsellino International Airport also welcomed the announcement.

Thursday’s announcement follows recent news that the airline will launch a direct service to the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, also in May.

Announcing the Tel Aviv flight, the airline said it would also offer an additional Tuesday morning flight to Brussels and an extra service to London Gatwick on Thursday afternoons, bringing the total number of weekly flights to the UK capital to 23.

KM flights to Catania open from the start of the summer.
