Extended Stays Scheme

The Directorate for Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration with the Gozo Tourism Association,  has issued an Expression of Interest and Guidelines pertaining to the Shoulder Period Extended Stays in Gozo Scheme, announced in the Malta Budget 2023, as one of the Budget 2024 Proposals by GTA.

This scheme is administered by the Directorate for Tourism and Economic Development (DTED) within the Ministry for Gozo, in collaboration with the Gozo Tourism Association (GTA), through a number of accommodation operators in Gozo,  who express their intent to participate in this initiative through the  Expression of Interest  just issued. Following is short brief of the scheme:

  1. The objective of this scheme is to incentivise extended holidays in Gozo of a minimum 10-night stay between mid-October 2023 and mid-March 2024.
  2. The overall grant to be serving as a discount to the traveler/s is calculated at 30% of the total accommodation expense per eligible reservation up to a maximum of €300. The 30% mentioned discount is split in a co-financing rate of 80% by the Ministry for Gozo and 20% by the accommodation operator.
  3. Accommodation operators will also be requested to provide a 10% voucher for each eligible reservation benefitting from this scheme, redeemable between May 2024 and September 2024. This will provide a small incentive to sustain repeat visitors, thereby visiting the island and additionally experiencing its offering during a different period of the year. Eligible reservations must be booked directly through the relevant accommodation operator’s website (i.e. not through any third-party online booking platforms).

A pertinent landing page will be  created providing links to each collaborating property’s owned and dedicated website. In addition, each accommodation operator participating in this scheme will be required to include a clear and visible notice referring to this scheme on their respective website.

Furthermore the  Directorate for Tourism  is willing to meet interested parties on a bilateral basis to further elaborate and explain the scheme. Finally we encourage you to join this scheme aimed to entice longer stays in Gozitan accommodation during the lean months.
