A. RULES

The Selection Board receives nominations for the ‘Gozo Tourism Awards for the following Awards:

• Tourism Worker of the Year Award
• Young Tourism Worker of the Year Award (under the age of 25 last birthday)
• Investment and Entrepreneurship in Gozo Tourism Award
• Niche Tourism Achievement in Gozo Award

The Selection Board is composed of a chairperson and three (3) other members.

Objectives of Tourism Worker of the Year Award & Young tourism Worker of the Year Award (under the age of 25 last birthday)

• To acknowledge the service given by the employee during the performance of his/her duties in the Gozitan touristic sector.
• To acknowledge the employee who with his/her performance and his/her qualities was a role model to his colleagues.
• To acknowledge the employee who through his/her performance was not only enhancing his/her place of work but was also instrumental in improving the touristic industry on Gozo.
• To acknowledge the employee who with the performance of his/her duties, was enticing confidence in a career in the tourism sector.
• To reward the employee who has shown innovative and creative skills, through the performance of his/her duties.
• To reward the employee who excelled in the hospitality he/she offered in terms of friendliness, helpfulness and enthusiasm.

Objectives of the Investment and Entrepreneurship in Gozo Tourism Award

• To provide recognition to individual/partners or businesses who have achieved outstanding accomplishments that have had significant impact on the tourism sector on Gozo.
• To acknowledge the financial investment in tourism sector on Gozo.
• To create a greater awareness of the role the entrepreneur plays in the Gozitan tourism sector.
• To encourage and inspire potential entrepreneurs
• To showcase and share examples of best entrepreneurship.

The criteria for the Investment and Entrepreneurship in Gozo Tourism Award are categorised into the underlisted three areas. He/She must have made an outstanding and sustained contribution to his or her organisation.

Personal Qualities

Integrity

The awardee’s integrity should be of the highest standard.

Entrepreneurial Abilities

Personal contribution to an organisation outside the realm of his/her immediate business interests. It is a merit point for the awardee if he/she has made such a contribution.

Managerial Skills

Depth of Management

The awardee should have contributed to the raising of management skills and the establishment of a viable organisational structure.

Adaptability

The awardee must have adapted to the changing environment and demands.

Tenacity

The awardee should have displayed perseverance and tenacity in working towards objectives.

Leadership Qualities

The awardee must be someone who has won the respect of his/her subordinates and whose actions set an example for his/her organisation. He/she should be adept at motivating employees.

Productivity

The awardee must have made a substantial contribution to improving the output of his/her employees.

Creativity

The awardee should have an innovative approach to his/her business affairs.

Good Labour Management

The awardee should have a track record of establishing and maintaining harmonious relations in the organisation.

Contribution to Gozo’s Development

The awardee or his/her organisation should have made a positive contribution to Gozo’s development. This includes contributions in the Touristic, Economic, Social and Cultural Areas.

Rules of Eligibility

The awardee should be involved in a Touristic related business enterprise in Gozo

He/she should either be a Maltese citizen or ordinary resident in Gozo and Malta

There is no restriction on sex, age, or race.

Objectives of Niche Tourism Achievement in Gozo Award

• To identify a community project or event that has made an impact on the cultural life of the Island of Gozo and brought forth the Gozitan people closer to the visiting guest and tourist.

• To acknowledge any Gozitan individual or Gozo-based institution who demonstrated an innovative approach to develop creative initiatives that enhances the Gozitan tourism product.

• To reward an individual or any organisation that promoted the cultural diversity and authenticity of Gozo through a cultural activity and or project that was instrumental in attracting both domestic and foreign visitors to Gozo.

• To commend any large- or small-scale events, festivals and or exhibitions that were organised in Gozo over the last year that enhanced the number of visitors to Gozo.

Contribution to Gozo’s Development

The nominee or his/her organisation should have made a positive contribution to Gozo’s tourism development. This includes contributions in the Economic, Social and Cultural areas that in turn augmented the touristic Gozitan offer.

Rules of Eligibility

The nominee or his/her organisation should be involved in the social, economic and cultural related business or activities operating in Gozo.

If the nominated organisation is an NGO, it should prove that it is either an affiliated member of the NGO’s Association in Gozo or registered with the Commissioner of Voluntary Organisations.

There is no restriction on sex, age, or race.

B. APPLICATION FORMS

Although nominations can be submitted online there are still some individuals who prefer to pick up the nomination forms from our office, then returns them back to us duly filled. Instead of collecting these forms from the office, they can be downloaded for this section as follows:

Once downloaded these forms should be printed, duly filled, and returned back to the GTA’s office by not later than noon 31 December on each year.

Once the GTA receives the nominations, the nominees (or in the case of an establishment or event – the owner or organising committee) are approached by the Gozo Tourism association and asked if they accept their nomination. If they accept, then they are required to fill up an appropriate form listing personal details, attributes as well as testimonials and certificates if available. This form should be signed by two proposers one of which is preferably the person who has sent the nomination in the first place.

These three forms are also available for collection from the office of the Gozo Tourism Association.

The duly filled application forma are to be submitted back to the GTA by not later than 31st December 2023.
